Every year, the Brubaker family picks a place to gather, unplug from our busy schedules, and spend a few days simply being together. This year’s destination was the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, and it couldn’t have been a better choice.
For three days, we traded our calendars, meetings, and to-do lists for swimsuits, water slides, family dinners, and conversations that lasted well into the evening. We had the opportunity to reconnect with our parents, siblings, cousins, children, and grandkids. As our family continues to grow, those moments together become even more valuable.
And let’s be honest…three days is just about the perfect amount of time. Long enough to make lasting memories, but short enough that we all still liked each other when it was time to head home.
The weekend was packed with fun. There was plenty of swimming, racing down water slides, friendly competition on the go-karts, and taking in the sights on the famous Wisconsin Dells Duck rides. But as much fun as those activities were, some of the best moments happened back at the condo.
There is something special about sitting around together with nowhere to be. We spent hours on the couches sharing stories, catching up on life, laughing, and enjoying conversations that don’t happen often enough. Those unplanned moments are usually the ones that stay with you the longest.
