Keeping Round Lake in the know—because informed neighbors shape stronger communities

Are You on the Village Water Bill Naughty List This Month?

A wide landscape illustration showing a faucet dripping money (coins and dollar bills) down into a suburban neighborhood with HOA-style homes. The scene has a slightly dramatic, editorial feel — warm tones, clean composition, suitable as a blog featured image. No black bars or square crop. 16:9 aspect ratio, centered subject with breathing room on the sides.

Tuesday night, I had the pleasure of attending the Treehouse in the Woods HOA meeting, and I have to say, the welcome was warm, the conversation was friendly, and the residents were engaged. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with neighbors, share a few updates, and hear what’s happening in their corner of the village.

We talked about several things going on around the village, including the upcoming November 3 election referendum, which asks voters to consider changing the Village Clerk position from an elected position to a hired position. It’s an important local-government question, and I appreciated the opportunity to share information and encourage residents to learn more before heading to the polls.

But the biggest—and perhaps most urgent—conversation of the evening was about the village’s water billing changes.

Are You on the Water Bill Naughty List? 🎄💧

The village has shared several social media posts and included information in water bill invoices about changes to credit card payment procedures. Unfortunately, if you’re anything like me, you may have seen those updates and thought, “I’ll get to that later.”

Well… later apparently arrived with a little attitude.

Because if you use credit card autopay, like I do, you now need to create an account with the village’s new payment provider to get that payment method established again.

And if you missed the notices? You may have ended up on the village’s “naughty list” for non-payment, with the added possibility of having your water shut off. Nothing like a little household plumbing suspense to liven up the week!

And here’s the embarrassing part: even the Mayor ignores informational updates sometimes! So, if you’re on that list, please know you’re in good company. 😂

The good news is that help is available. If you’re one of the approximately 750 account holders affected by this change, please call Village Hall. Staff can provide instructions on the new payment process and explain how to get your account established again.

And just to be clear, there is no change if you pay in person, by check, by cash, or through ACH. This particular change affects those using credit card payments, including credit card autopay.

So, consider this your friendly reminder: check your water bill, check your payment method, and if you’re on the naughty list, call Village Hall before your water decides to take an unexpected vacation! 💧

A big thank-you to the Treehouse in the Woods HOA for the warm welcome and the opportunity to connect. I always appreciate these gatherings and the chance to keep the lines of communication open with residents.

Community is built one conversation at a time—and occasionally, one water bill reminder at a time! 😊
