There’s something pretty special about a Sunday in Round Lake when you can spend the day moving from one community event to another—and today was one of those days!
I started the morning downtown at the Outdoor Market hosted by the Twisted Sisters. It was a great way to kick off the day, with local vendors, plenty of people out enjoying the morning, and lots of interesting things to discover.
Of course, I couldn’t leave empty-handed! I picked up some delicious cinnamon rolls, a really cool decorative watering can, and some mango slices with tahini. Yes, I realize that combination makes for a pretty unusual shopping bag—but that’s part of the fun!
From there, I headed over to watch the Round Lake Jr. Panthers football games. It was great to see so many young athletes and cheerleaders giving it their all. These kids are some of the best youth football players and cheerleaders around, and the energy on the sidelines was contagious.
I also ran into a few old friends along the way—Steve Foley, Tim Ridley and Mike Palos. It’s always great when a community event turns into an unexpected reunion with people you haven’t seen in a while.
And then it was off to Madrona Village for their Back to School Bash, hosted by the Madrona Village HOA.
What a great turnout!
I had a lot of fun talking with residents, hearing what’s happening in the neighborhood, and meeting some new friends. Events like this are a great reminder that a community is about much more than streets, buildings and infrastructure. It’s about the people who live here and the relationships we build with one another.
And, as if the great turnout and good conversations weren’t enough, they even had an ice cream truck!
That might be the official sign of a successful community event.
From cinnamon rolls downtown, to youth football, to catching up with old friends, to meeting new neighbors over ice cream—it was a pretty great Sunday in Round Lake.
These are the days that make being part of this community so much fun. ❤️
